Definitely NOT a light roast, but a good darker one.

While this coffee has good values and drinks OK as a dark roast, I can't give Urth Caffe a pass for calling it a light roast.

They are not light roast as they are clearly cracked and oily. It's probably fair to call it a Medium-Dark or Vienna Roast.

That said, I got a good result when I ran it through the espresso machine IF you assume it's a Vienna Roast. Smooth, chocolatey, nice medium crema with dark roast characteristics, a touch of smoke and clove.

I think Urth Caffe reminds me of a lot of places I've been in Los Angeles restaurant and cafe-wise. It's a bit eclectic, frenetic, and trying to satisfy everyone. It's not clear labels used elsewhere apply. Maybe they are saying this is lightly roasted compared to their other darker roasts. Enjoy the Urth Caffe experience means embracing that spirit.

It ended too bitterly for me and wasnt as complex as I would have liked. Almost had a woody taste to it.

Each sip opens with a light sweetness, moves to hints of caramel and chocolate, but unfortunately ends with a pervasively bitter finish. I don't recommend this roast for cold brew. I am curious to see if a different brewing method would depress the bitterness.

More Details

Roast Level: Light
Light roast coffee is a delicately roasted coffee that retains more of the beans' natural flavors and characteristics. Light-roasted coffees have bright acidity, complex fruit, and floral notes. Light roast coffee does not have less caffeine than darker roasts because caffeine levels remain stable during roasting.
Bean Source Country: Colombia
Colombian coffees are known for their balanced taste, featuring bright acidity, medium body, and a range of flavors, including fruity notes, caramel sweetness, and nutty undertones. Colombia's worldwide reputation for producing great coffee at scale is well-deserved. Increasingly some of the best microlot specialty roasts are coming from Colombia thanks to their expertise in cultivation and process.
Organic
Organic coffee is produced without synthetic chemicals, such as pesticides, herbicides, and artificial fertilizers. Instead, organic coffee farmers rely on natural and sustainable agricultural practices like crop rotation, composting, and biological pest control. To be labeled as organic, coffee must meet strict regulations and certification criteria set by governing bodies, such as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) or the European Union (EU). Organic coffee not only supports environmental sustainability but may also offer health benefits, as it contains fewer chemical residues than conventionally grown coffee.
