The town of Buesaco sits in the northwest corner of Nariño at the convergence of the three branches of the Colombian Andes, where high-altitude tropics meet markedly cooler alpine conditions, yielding rich lands ideal for coffee cultivation. Tiny coffee farms pepper the mountainsides—while the average farm in Nariño is roughly two hectares (five acres), the majority of Buesaco’s farmers hold significantly less land, delivering coffee in small quantities to local purchasing points each season.
