Contains 2x the caffeine, drink with caution. This is a natural-processed Robusta from Sajonia Estate. We have always thought Robusta was far from meeting our quality standards but over the years with new techniques and skill being applied by skilled farmers, the quality is catching up. This is the first Robusta we have ever offered but we are excited for a few reasons. This coffee has 2x the caffeine of arabica coffee, if you have seen Death Wish and/or Black Rifle and wondered why their coffee had more caffeine, it's because they use Robusta instead of arabica, great for that extra boost of energy in the morning and it's offered as our cheapest coffee so it's budget friendly. With climate change getting worse each year, coffee is continuing to get more and more expensive and harder to grow. Farmers need a hearty, disease and heat resistant coffee that can provide sustainable income for their family and to keep providing coffee to the world. Robusta is one major piece of the puzzle to keep coffee in our mugs so we are honored to offer this specialty grade Robusta alongside our arabica lots. The La Sajonia Estate was established by the Ortiz and Baltodano families in Nicaragua as a step towards re-establishing agricultural production in post Sandinista Nicaragua. This initial investment has allowed the estate to build nurseries for rust-resistant root stock, install processing infrastructure, and provide the coffee-growing community with well-paid jobs, training, housing, schools and clinics. The philosophy behind this investment is to reap the benefits of professional management, a contented workforce, and improve the environment while producing quality coffee. The estate has taken steps to be more environmentally friendly, including recycling processing byproducts into alcohol as opposed to dumping them in the local waterways.

More Details

Bean Source Country: Nicaragua
Nicaraguan coffee is celebrated for its well-balanced and approachable taste. Grown primarily in the fertile volcanic highlands, the coffee beans benefit from a unique combination of nutrient-rich soils, high altitude, and mild climate, which imparts a smooth, medium body and gentle acidity to the brew. Nicaraguan coffee is known for its delightful flavor notes, which include milk chocolate, caramel, and toasted nuts, accented by a subtle touch of stone fruits and citrus.
Espresso
Espresso is a concentrated coffee beverage brewed by forcing hot water through finely-ground coffee beans under high pressure. It is characterized by its rich flavor and distinctive crema—the creamy layer that forms on top of the extracted process. When evaluating espresso, coffee experts often focus on key tasting characteristics such as aroma, flavor, body, and aftertaste. Aroma refers to the fragrant smells released during brewing, while flavor encompasses the coffee's overall taste profile, including notes of sweetness, bitterness, acidity, and richness. Body refers to the coffee's texture or mouthfeel, with descriptors like full-bodied, medium-bodied, or light-bodied. Aftertaste, or the finish, pertains to the lingering flavors and sensations experienced after swallowing the coffee. A well-prepared espresso is prized for its balance and complexity, combining these sensory attributes into a harmonious whole.
