First off, let me state that I love Trader Joe's.

Now that we have that out of the way...

I think Trader's Joe's Cold Brew Black Coffee is notably bad with a bad aftertaste. I'm not really sure how to score it. It has some good attributes - it's not acidic. It's got a nice chocolate and some natural sweetness. It just...doesn't taste good for me, maybe a little bit chemically, maybe a bit woody/muddy in the mid-palate. Woody + muddy = swampy, which is how I think the mid-palate hits. I think that more acidity would help balance that out a bit.

This is pretty clearly a dark roast type coffee, but no clear expectation is set on the can, and that's a problem.

Cupping Method:I bought a cold brew can at Trader Joe's in Acton, MA, and drank it one week later.

More Details

Roast Level: Dark
Dark roast coffee features a more intense, robust flavor profile due to its longer roasting time. Therefore, when selecting a dark roast, expect less acidity, a full body, and flavors like dark chocolate, smokiness, and a hint of bitterness.
