Luis Pedro Zelaya is a fourth-generation coffee producer and leader in the Antigua coffee community. He runs his family’s farm with respect for the land and a drive for innovation to produce coffees like this noteworthy single origin. A round cup combining notes of creamy vanilla, nectarine, and plum. Semillero sits at the base of Volcán de Fuego, an active volcano you can often hear—and feel—rumbling nearby. The rich soil produces some of the finest coffees in the Zelaya family operation, but it wasn’t always that way. Semillero was the first plot of land Luis Pedro Zelaya bought after graduating as an agronomist. Initially intended to be a seedling farm, but after some experiments, the land began to produce one exquisite coffee after another. Today, Semillero produces some of the highest-quality lots seen in the operation, and this year’s lot is no exception.

Bean Source Country: Guatemala
Guatemala is one of the main coffee-producing countries in Central America. Its volcanic soil and altitude make it ideal for producing quality arabica.
Coffee in Guatemala is grown in the high-altitude regions of the country. The country is known for producing high-quality Arabica beans, known for their well-balanced, rich, and complex flavors with notes of chocolate, fruit, and nuts with great acidity. The volcanic soil and favorable climate conditions contribute to the unique taste profile of Guatemalan coffee. The coffee industry is a significant part of the country's economy, with small-scale farmers and cooperatives being the primary producers. Guatemala represents around 2% of the world's coffee production, but due to its reputation for high quality, has an outsized impact in specialty roasts.
