Organic

Introducing Decaf Shakeout, our reimagined, certified organic, decaffeinated coffee. If you have enjoyed Equator’s Decaf Organic Blend over the years, you’ll love Decaf Shakeout! We are continuing the tradition of selecting in-season, freshly decaffeinated coffee from Latin America for this offering, but over the course of the year we may blend in an additional coffee to evolve the flavor seasonally. The name Shakeout was inspired by the running community. A shakeout run is an easy run that is done as a warmup before a longer race but can also be done the day after a long run or simply to break up a series of strenuous training days. Whether you drink decaf regularly or only on occasion to shakeout the caffeine out of your system, you’ll be sure to enjoy this coffee. The current version is Decaf Shakeout is made up entirely of coffee from Cafès Especiales Corquín (CAFSÉCOR) cooperative, which is based in the Copán growing region of Western Honduras. CAFSÉCOR is dedicated to improving the livelihood of its members, providing training and financing aimed at increasing quality, yields and producer earnings. The group is committed to the preservation of the environment and local wildlife, and started a campaign against child labor in 2019. Like all decaf coffee at Equator, Decaf Shakeout is decaffeinated using the water process method of caffeine extraction. This chemical-free process allows much of the coffee’s original flavor characteristics to be retained, resulting in a flavorful decaffeinated coffee.

More Details

Roast Level: Medium Dark
Medium-dark or Vienna roast coffee features a deeper, richer flavor profile due to its longer roasting time. When selecting a Vienna roast, look for a lower acidity, bolder body, and flavors with dark chocolate, caramel, toasted nut notes, and mild smokiness.
Bean Source Country: Honduras
Honduran specialty coffee is distinguished by its diverse growing regions, such as Copán, Santa Bárbara, and Comayagua, each offering distinct flavor profiles due to the country's varied microclimates and elevations. Coffee from Honduras often features bright acidity, medium body, and a range of flavors, including fruity, nutty, and chocolatey notes.
Bean Source Region: Copan
Copan is a renowned coffee-producing region in western Honduras, known for its high-quality Arabica coffee beans. Coffee from Copan is characterized by its medium acidity, rich sweetness, and diverse flavor profiles. It often exhibits notes of chocolate, caramel, stone fruits, and a velvety body.
Organic
Organic coffee is produced without synthetic chemicals, such as pesticides, herbicides, and artificial fertilizers. Instead, organic coffee farmers rely on natural and sustainable agricultural practices like crop rotation, composting, and biological pest control. To be labeled as organic, coffee must meet strict regulations and certification criteria set by governing bodies, such as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) or the European Union (EU). Organic coffee not only supports environmental sustainability but may also offer health benefits, as it contains fewer chemical residues than conventionally grown coffee.
