In 2022, women’s rights were fundamentally threatened, so we’re kicking off the new year by doubling down on our commitment to supporting women around the globe, and to investing in our supply line from source to sip. Snow Leopard is a seasonal blend that gives us the opportunity to take single-origin coffees we enjoy on their own and combine them in unique ways to create something delicious! Snow Leopard is offered each year during the winter months from January-March. Colombia Las Rosas acts as the foundation of the blend and contributes depth and body, while El Salvador Finca Himalaya Orange Honey’s subtle fruit flavors and nuttiness add complexity, and finally, Ethiopia Abana Estate contributes delicate fruit and floral notes that complement the other two coffees perfectly. We partnered with Las Rosas, a group of women coffee farmers in Colombia, to source a component of this blend, and 5% of all sales go directly to their microcredit loan program that empowers members of the group to take on leadership positions and gain financial independence through quality coffee production. LAS ROSAS WOMEN'S GROUP (COLOMBIA) MICHAEL OMRAN (ETHIOPIA) MAURICIO ARTURO SALAVERRIA CACERES (EL SALVADOR) This year's Snow Leopard Blend is built around a coffee produced by a group of women farmers from Southern Colombia's Huila growing region by the members of the Association of Women Coffee Growers of West Huila (Asociación de Mujeres Cafeteras del Occidente del Huila), whom make up the Las Rosas Women’s Coffee Project. Learn more about the Las Rosas Women's Group and our 5% giveback program in the "Good Coffee, Better Planet" section below. We then added a coffee produced by Mauricio "Moe" Salaverria's farm, Finca Himalaya in El Salvador. This Bourbon variety lot was processed using the honey method of processing, where trace amounts of the fruit mucilage are left to dry on the beans. The Bourbon variety is a naturally occurring mutation of Typica from the island of Bourbon, now called Réunion, and is one of the most genetically significant contributors to non-native Ethiopian cultivars. Finally, we finished the blend with a coffee from Abana Estate, a 300-hectare coffee farm favorably located in the scenic highlands of Ethiopia’s Limu growing region that was established in 2009 by the Omran family. With most of the farm sitting above 2,000 meters, conditions are ideal for producing specialty coffee. Realizing this, the Omran family decided to shift their focus from producing large volumes of coffee, to producing high quality coffee instead.
