After a long day/week, as Vegas trip tend to be, I tried the decaf coffee at the AMEX Centurion Lounge in Las Vegas.

The experience was quite pleasant, with a smooth and light profile featuring a slight almond note. The coffee had almost no bitterness, which was a welcome surprise.

The flavor profile included a hint of citrus and a slightly herbaceous undertone, contributing to its unique character. The silky mouthfeel and immaculate finish made it enjoyable despite lacking a robust flavor punch. It served as a satisfying warm cup and a perfect pick-me-up before my flight.

I don't really know what this coffee was, and I wish they would be more diligent about it. The tag (in the posted picture) says "Decaf Laminita." I was thinking it could be a light-medium decaf Costa Rican, as La Minita is a notable hacienda there.

Anyhow no idea whether this is the coffee you'll see at any other Centurion lounges or even this one in Las Vegas, but thanks for indulging my insatiable impulse to log every coffee I drink.

Roast Level: Light Medium
A Light Medium Roast coffee, sometimes referred to as a "City Roast" or "American Roast," lies between a light and medium roast. This roast level strikes a balance by preserving the coffee bean's unique characteristics while allowing for a moderate development of body and flavor. The beans have a medium brown color, exhibiting a slight sheen of oils, providing a more balanced and nuanced flavor profile. A Light Medium Roast typically highlights the coffee's inherent fruity, floral, or citrus notes, while also providing some of the deeper, richer flavors associated with medium roasts.
Decaf
Decaffeinated coffee has undergone a process to remove most of the caffeine content while preserving its flavor and aroma. There are three primary decaffeination methods. The solvent-based method involves soaking coffee beans in water to dissolve the caffeine, followed by adding a solvent, such as methylene chloride or ethyl acetate, to bind to the caffeine molecules selectively. The Swiss Water Process (SWP) is a chemical-free method that relies on the principles of solubility and osmosis. Finally, the carbon dioxide method involves using supercritical carbon dioxide to extract caffeine from the coffee beans. Decaf coffee typically retains most of the flavor and aroma of regular coffee but with a significantly reduced caffeine content (around 2-3%).
