Moji Coffee + More began as a dream in 2017, inspired by the amazing abilities of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the apparent disparity in the unemployment rate for people with disabilities. Founding Director, Tim Flavin, a coach for the Special Olympics for over 25 years, joined together with a team of passionate parents, advocates, and community leaders to make Moji Coffee + More a reality. With vehement advocacy and tremendous response, Moji Coffee + More made a plan to launch it’s doors in 2019 with a goal to employ over 24 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. With the overwhelming support of our community partners such as Salem Sports, the Winston Salem Foundation, Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools, and more, the reality of “the coffee that gives everyone a voice” became possible. Our mission took off when a crowd of believers, supporters, and advocates flooded through our doors the day of our Grand Opening June 21, 2019. Moji Coffee + More has been serving the community ever since, empowering individuals with “diverse abilities” and advocating for their employment beyond our walls. Shortly after opening, we had the privilege of partnering with Forsyth County and the Forsyth Central Library to open a second location (now open)! Since opening our doors, we have served over 50,000 cups of coffee to our community… each cup sustaining meaningful and enriching employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
