Labeled as Origen Planet (or is Origen & Planet), this is a Nespresso capsule that is compostable I bought at a supermarket in Madrid. I have to say that I am quite satisfied given that it's ecological and capsule based. It extracted well with a nice medium crema, and is very smooth caramel and nutty characteristics. A little red grape finish, and overall low bitterness and acidity. Probably better than just about every Nespresso original line capsule. Very inexpensive here in Spain.

This is a solid dark roast capsule, as good and functional as many of the Nespresso capsules. Fairly smooth, chocolate character is nice. I think it's missing a little bit of acidity and fruitineness for balace, and the crema is just OK. Complexity is relatively low. While the Nespresso machine I had here didn't have a foamer, I think it would been neutral enough for good lattes and cafe con leche.

Cupping Method:I bought these at Carrefour in Madrid. These were very inexpensive, .27 euro per capsule.

Editor's Overview

Given Origen & Planet's logo has a sprout coming out of a Nespresso capsule, we're assuming this is the market they are focused on. We tested two of their compostable capsules in a standard low-end Nespresso machine and got good results. The flavor and crema were comparable to Nespresso capsules and offered strong value in addition to what appears to be good environmental principles. We're often wary of the quality of extraction from Nespresso substitutes, so Origen & Planet has been a pleasant find.

Note than in 2024 we found the website down so this brand may be been deprecated.
