Our company started when two childhood best friends, Marten Boyden and Austin Roberts, joined forces to make their very first coffee roaster... from scratch. They were passionate and scrappy, and piece by piece they built an amazing roaster that was powered by a bicycle (it was quite funny to watch them take turns biking away to roast those beans over a wood fire!). Next they renovated an old trailer and made it into Kainos' very first store front! They quickly outgrew both models and opened not one, but TWO locations within one year: one in The Dalles, and one in Portland. Marten's and Kainos’ passions have grown to now include wood fired pizza and fresh pastries, as well as a state of the art roasting facility in The Dalles that allows customers to watch their coffee being roasted right in front of them!
