Highwire Coffee was founded on the belief that a coffee company can be a positive force. To the founders, "good" signifies a business that provides meaningful employment and nurturing environments, fosters professional development, and ensures employees feel valued and purposeful. It also encompasses a commitment to mutual support, sharing resources, partnering with like-minded individuals, and making sustainable choices. This ethos extends into the broader community and influences the company's service to its customers.

Rich Avella, Eric Hashimoto, and Robert Myers, who met in the mid-1990s, established Highwire Coffee, united by their shared values and passion for quality coffee. They envision a space where great coffee is enjoyed in an environment where people feel welcomed, and where the act of connecting over coffee takes precedence over the specifics of the beverage itself.

In 2011, Highwire Coffee began with a modest setup in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland. The company's DIY spirit reflects their ongoing journey as small business owners. Today, Highwire Coffee serves customers across Oakland, Berkeley, Albany, Montclair Village, and Alameda, with roasting operations based in Emeryville and an expanding reach beyond the Bay Area.

This was an interesting and different espresso that worked in a very different way for me.

It's a touch milk chocolate, and then sweet ruby red grapefruit, like when you put brown sugar on it for breakfast. Not very bitter or grapefruit ride, just that sort of citric, sweet, tart, and slightly bitter character. It's bright and pretty tasty if you're into it (which I am).

The crema is on the light side but pretty persistent.

When I tasted it I personally liked it but I was sure how it would work in lattes. I had ordered it as an extra bag because we have latte-drinking guests. Turned out everyone was pretty happy. Folks, including myself, liked it a bit more than another single origin medium roast I had ordered that week from Trade.

Cupping Method:I bought this coffee from Trade, and mainly made it as an espresso (including a lot of lattes for family).

This roast is so smooth, I accidentally drank it right down without contemplation. Well balanced, with hints of milk chocolate. Excellent, creamy mouthfeel.

Cupping Method:Moka espresso, cream with no sweetener
